Is 2013, finally the year … to lose this extra weight, for good. I guess
it’s been a couple years since I took the wright loss thing seriously, and I’m
up 30 lbs from where I ended and I still hadn't reached my final goal. OK, so I've ballooned to about 222 pounds, and on my 5-8 frame that’s pretty darn fat. Let me
see, a BMI calculator puts my body mass index at 33.8 Obese it says! Ouch, that
means fat. So here I am resolved to reduce my weight and get healthier. Yes, I’ve
made that resolution before with some positive buy many negative results. My
goal, well not sure exactly … I’m thinking somewhere around 175 would be nice.
Let me see the BMI for 175 … 26.6, which is still slightly overweight, but I
think with my body type that would be fine … I guess if I could get to a svelte
160 to 165, great, but realistically 175 sounds good, and that’s nearly 50
pounds. Wow, 50 pounds. I don’t feel horrible or anything, but I am 40, so if I’m
going to get healthier I probably need to do it sooner than later.
My plan: eat less, exercise more. It’s as simple as that. I will
consider also the things I eat. Most definitely, need to reduce my sugar
consumption. Donuts, candy, sugared drinks need to be consumed way less frequently.
I need to stop late-night snacking another major problem I have. I want to eat
more raw vegetables and drink more water. I will continue my drinking of
coffee, but no sugar or creamer most the time … occasionally I’ll treat myself.
So I started this effort yesterday Jan. 2 and I believe I ate fairly
healthy and not too much. I did get hungry at night and ate a banana, but not
chips with dip which I would have preferred. I also ate a lighter dinner than I
would have normally, and lunch was fruit and a deer stick.
Today, Jan. 3, I was tempted by bagels and donuts in the break room this
morning (Russ’ birthday) but I abstained. Went back later and there was Eli’s
Cheesecake, again I didn't grab a piece. Last month I would have ate it all
most likely … first a bagel with schmear, then perhaps a half donut, and why
not a sliver a cheesecake, I’d say … and that would add up to nearly a half-day
of calories … just with some morning snacking.
So let’s see if I can stick out a good diet and lose weight and get
healthier. I’ll write more soon about my plans for exercise and keep you aware
of how I’m doing with efforts to eat healthier. Stay tuned and enjoy.
